In this video:
Not actually a bean at all (beans being seeds from the family Fabaceae, also known as Leguminosae), the Mexican Jumping Bean is the seed pod of a shrub called Sebastiania pavoniana that has been implanted with larva from the Laspeyresia saltitans (also called Cydia deshaisiana) moth.

Wow, there was a time Today I Found Out made short videos.
I had one of these as a kid it’s probably dead 🥺I lost it and I never found it 🙁.
fun fact: if you cut the beans open and put the larva next to each other they fight to the death…
okay not so fun i guess
Wtf? You’re not going to show any moving around? Dumb.
Is this Vsauce?
But if I just hopped around because I was hot, people would think I'm weird
FAIL.
You never show the damn beans moving?
Startlingly lame.
Never answered the question…
News flash: it’s Larva, not LARVAR.
Chihuahua is not in Sonora. They're completely different states. Something else that you found out today.
Lame, you didn't even show one "jumping"
In the 1970's when I was a kid we used to get a small sack of Mexican Jumping Beans in those gumball type machines found at the entrance to stores and for 5 cents!
Today if you want Mexican Jumping Beans they cost about $12.00. WE ARE being robbed (of SO many things; great and small!) in todays world……
